Smart Tourism Destinations
The Smart Tourism Destinations program proposes a tourism management model based on five focal areas: governance, innovation, technology, sustainability and accessibility. The goal of the initiative is to help meet the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations (UN).
The program’s actions include an internal review process for destinations. Based on the level of compliance calculated for each site, priority actions are carried out in order to increase the destination’s competitiveness, ensure more effective management and promote its sustainable development.
Every citizen has the right to access sustainable tourism resources, as well as the responsibility to protect them. This diagnostic and planning methodology helps create more sustainable and intelligent tourism spaces over the long run.
The Smart Tourism Management System is comprised of five focal areas under the UNE 178501:2018 Standard, namely Governance, Innovation, Technology, Sustainability and Accessibility, which are present in ICT’s National Tourism Development Plan.
