Paul Verhagen, the Director of International Sales for Aeroméxico, said: “With the opening of this new route, Aeroméxico is strengthening its relationship with Costa Rica, a country that is full of opportunity and which has become an ever more important partner for Mexico. Mexico is the second-largest investor in Costa Rica in the Americas after the United States. With over 35 Mexican companies operating in this country, we are sure that this air connection will benefit both countries while increasing their tourism and cultural exchanges”.
Meanwhile, Hermes Navarro, Director of Investment Attraction for ICT, noted that this new flight arriving from Mexico will not only increase connectivity with a country that one of the main tourist-sending markets, but also connect Costa Rica to all of the connections Aeroméxico offers to destinations in the United States, Asia and Europe. It will be a valuable contribution to the development of tourism in Guanacaste and nearby regions, a tangible demonstration of ICT’s efforts to bring airlines to the country. “We are very pleased to announce the official opening of this new route to Daniel Oduber International Airport. This has been a joint effort by CATURGUA, CORIPORT and ICT to promote tourism linkages to small and medium enterprises, as well as to Costa Rican families who make their living from tourism”, Navarro concluded.
Furthermore, CORIPORT, the operator of Daniel Oduber International Airport, noted that this route will open the door to one of Latin America’s largest airports, which will allow visits from Mexico as well as from various other destinations with connections in Mexico City.
“We are pleased to be building bonds with Mexico, and we are sure that the tourists who visit us will have an excellent first impression of Guanacaste, just as we have incredible respect for their nation. We will continue our efforts to attract new flights, and this is an excellent time to celebrate our continued growth”, said César Jaramillo, General Manager of CORIPORT.
Over the last decade, visits from Mexico have seen a considerable increase. By the end of 2017, over 100,000 arrivals had been registered from the country, showing the keen interest in this market for Costa Rica's tourism offerings. By this August, over 69,000 arrivals from Mexico had been recorded, a figure that may well increase with the opening of this connection. According to studies done by the Costa Rican Tourism Board, over 53% of tourists from Mexico take part in activities such as enjoying the sun and beaches, observing flora and fauna, experiencing local cuisine, visiting volcanoes, and others. These are activities that can be enjoyed in the province of Guanacaste.
This means that Aeroméxico will not only increase its international connectivity and presence in Central America, it will also strengthen its commitment to offering more and better options to its clients with quality destinations.
