New Spirit flight doubles the number of seats

  • The airline will fly 4 times per week and will begin daily flights on November 8th.

Beginning this Friday, the new Spirit flight on the Orlando-San José route will double the number of available seats between the Floridian metropolis and Juan Santamaría International Airport in Costa Rica.

In the last three months of this year, Spirit will serve this route with Airbus A320 commercial airplanes, with 182 seats, and A319 aircraft, with 145 seats. This means that over the last quarter of 2018, the new flight will add approximately 12,728 seats to the existing 13,800 seats already offered by this airline.

“We are very excited to expand our service in Costa Rica,” said Matt Klein, the Chief Commercial Officer of Spirit Airlines. “Connecting the Orlando area with San José will unite families and friends and will offer more connections to other destinations in the Spirit network throughout the United States”.

The Minister of Tourism, María Amalia Revelo, noted that the Costa Rican Tourism Board is aiming to “increase the arrivals to Costa Rica from various parts of the United States making connections in Orlando through Spirit. We also seek to increase the number of Costa Rican tourists traveling to Orlando and beyond”.

The North American market remains the main tourist-sending market for Costa Rica. In 2017, some 1,199,241 international arrivals were recorded from the United States. Meanwhile, between January and June of 2018 there were 813,321 arrivals originating in the US, representing a 5.7% increase over the same period from a year earlier. The United States offers a potential market of 24 million people to the Costa Rican tourism sector.
