Air Canada will increase operations to Liberia Airport
- In the peak season, the Toronto-Liberia route will depart once daily, and the Montreal-Liberia route will increase from one to three flights per week.
- The increased frequency will increase the number of available seats by over 17,000
Starting in mid-December, Air Canada will see a major increase in its operations to the province of Guanacaste, which will increase the number of tourists from the cities of Montreal and Toronto entering the country by the Daniel Oduber Quirós International Airport.
The Montreal-Liberia route will increase from one to three flights per week (on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays) beginning on December 18, 2018.
The Toronto-Liberia route will increase its flights from four to seven flights per week, with daily operations beginning on December 15th of this year.
These changes will be maintained throughout the peak season, from mid-December to April 2019. Passengers on both routes will be transported using A319 planes.
“We are continuing to share good news and reinforcing our commitment to strengthen tourism from North America. We are proud that our efforts such as the airline attraction and frequency increase strategy are bearing fruit”, said Maria Amalia Revelo, Minister of Tourism.
She added that it is also a tangible example of the trust this airline places in Costa Rica and the province of Guanacaste as a destination.
The President of the Republic, Carlos Alvarado, declared that “the increase in the frequency of flights represents a major commitment for the country to continue offering quality service and a great commitment to boosting tourism in the Guanacaste region”.
This increased frequency will result in an increase of 17,292 available seats to Liberia coming from Canada (Toronto and Montreal) between December 2018 and April 2019, in comparison with the previous peak period.
Canadian tourism
According to ICT figures, 2017 saw the arrival of a little more than 200,000 Canadians. Some 87,000 tourists from the country of the maple leaf were reported to have entered through Daniel Oduber Quirós airport in Liberia. Canada represented 6.8% of the total arrivals to the country and 13.4% of arrivals from North America.
Additionally, according to studies by the ICT market research team, 35% of Canadians with high interest in visiting Costa Rica (considered as being the best prospects) come from Toronto and Montreal, which validates Air Canada’s decision to increase the frequency of flights.
Canadian tourists are interested in culture, rest and relaxation, exploring nature, adventure activities, visiting beaches and surfing.
“Canada is the country with the second highest number of visitors to our country. Increasing the frequency of these routes fills us with optimism towards the future, since it is a benefit to the province and it translates directly into more and better jobs for the tourist industry. We are committed to receiving these flights from Air Canada with the quality that every tourist deserves”, said César Jaramillo, General Manager of CORIPORT, the managing authority for the Daniel Oduber Quirós International Airport in Liberia.
