- The award was given by the World Travel Awards, which are considered the “Oscars of Tourism” at the global level.
Thanks to the joint management over the past few months, the Costa Rica Convention Center (CCCR), just shy of its first birthday, continues to receive awards and certifications.
In addition to receiving the international EDGE certification in May of this year, it has now been chosen by tourism professionals and consumers around the world as the Leading conference and meeting venue in Mexico and Central America for 2019 during the World Travel Awards.
This is the first time the award has been given outside of Mexico since the creation of the category, helping to position the Costa Rican venue as one of the region’s most important.
The ceremony was held last week in La Paz, Bolivia, and the awards have served to recognize, reward and celebrate excellence in every sector of the tourism industry. The event was attended by the main players, decision makers and travel and tourism industry influencers from throughout Latin America.
The CCCR is currently operated by Grupo Heroica, who have been carrying out strategic, commercial and operational work since 2018.
“Receiving this award strengthens us to continue building on the vision we set out from the beginning, to ensure that Costa Rica has a venue for world-class events, which is a reference point in Latin America in three strategic areas: service excellence, operational efficiency and sustainability. For all of us at Grupo Heroica, it is an honor to contribute our experience to the country’s progression towards this objective”, said Álvaro Rojas, General Manager of the Costa Rica Convention Center.
The winners of this regional ceremony will advance to the grand finale, which will be held on November 28 in Oman. These prestigious awards have been held annually for over 25 years, aiming to recognize the best regions and companies dedicated to travel and tourism around the world. The competition is divided up by region and, thanks to its major reach, the Central America and Mexico category has become an industry favorite.
Costa Rica has been placing itself on the meeting tourism map, setting up communication channels and opportunities for corporate development for countries around the world. The country has major advantages in attracting international congresses and conventions.

The goal of the Costa Rican Convention Center is to satisfy the demand for meeting services, both at a domestic and international level, with the aim of becoming a leading global destination, which supports the ICT’s country strategy for this sector.
