Reynaldo Kenton Kenton‘Shanty’
(or ‘Shanti’) [Puerto Limón, 1938]
Shanty got his start in calypso when it went hand-in-hand with the comparsas that paraded in the carnival of Limón. At one time, he was a soloist, later managing to gather some friends and form a group. He was part of Lobsterband and Skelintan, in the golden age of the Limón Carnival. His most important and long- standing project has been Shanty y Su Calypso. In this group, he performs songs by well-known authors such as Harry Belafonte. He sings his own calypsos. He composed Bananas (one of the most popular limonense tunes) and Limón hace su carnaval, Marcus Garvey and Juan Santamaría (which is performed in schools and colleges).
Kawe Calypso Group
This calypso group was formed by Danny Williams, Otilio Brown and Alfonso Goulbourne, all of whom have stellar backgrounds as composers, interpreters and calypso teachers. The instruments, which include the banjo, quijongo, maracas, drums and guitar, come together to produce the perfect mix of the vibrant chords of this rhythm that makes them

A faithful ambassador of this rhythm is Reinaldo “Shanty” Kenton and his calypso group, from Cieneguita de Limón, who are great artists
and calypso lovers. Without a doubt, they
