It includes the watershed of the Río Colorado, an offshoot of the Río San Juan. The Barra del Colorado Wildlife Reserve is a swampy area of great importance for the conservation of wild aquatic fauna and flora. Some of the species that can be seen here include the osprey, neotropic cormorant, great tinamou, little blue heron, tricolor heron, rainbow-billed toucan, white-tailed kite and red-lored amazon.
