Diving in the Caribbean
In the south of Limón is the most amazing marine coral of Costa Rica, which lies within the protected area of the Cahuita National Park. It is one of the most frequented parks in the country; diving here is incredible as there are more than 123 species of fish and corals.
From Cahuita to Manzanillo, there are several places to dive and snorkel. Underwater visibility is excellent when the sea is calm; this region is considered one of the best for diving as it has a great variety of corals and fauna to discover.
Diving in the Caribbean area takes place from September to mid-November.
These are the months with the best sea conditions for scuba diving due to the limited swell. Shorter periods during other months may also be favorable for diving in the southern Caribbean.
The dry season in the Caribbean is the best time for diving in Limón for beginners who prefer easy and colorful diving. During these months, divers will benefit from calmer seas and visibility reaching 70 feet (20 meters).
The best areas are located 1 mile offshore from the beaches of Manzanillo, Punta Uva, Chiquita and Cocles at depths of 5 to 25 meters.
The undersea sights awaiting divers include a great variety of corals, animals and fish. Also, nurse sharks, green turtles and lobsters are constant companions of sea divers, along with queen angelfish, turtles, barracudas, eels, lobsters and rays.
