Air France - KLM will offer 7 flights per week between Costa Rica and Europe for the European 2018-2019 winter season

  • 4 Air France flights on the Paris-Charles de Gaulle – San José route
  • 3 KLM flights on the Amsterdam-Schiphol – San José route

Starting October 28, 2018, the Air France-KLM group will operate one daily flight between Costa Rica and Europe during the European 2018-2019 winter season.

This is the third time that Air France is increasing its offerings since November 2, 2016, when it opened the Paris-San José route with 2 flights per week. It initially increased to 3 flights per week for the current 2017-2018 winter season, then announced 2 permanent flights during this year's European summer season (from March to October). Air France is now increasing its winter flights to 4 per week for 2018-2019.

KLM, for its part, opened its Amsterdam-San José route in 2017 with 2 weekly flights during winter, will increase its offer to 3 flights per week beginning in the next winter season.

“Costa Rica continues reaping the rewards of a successful policy of attracting airlines from our main tourism markets. Now, with this important news that both airlines are increasing the frequency of their flights by one each, the Air France-KLM group will fly every day of the week to our country during peak season, creating almost 7,000 new seats”, explained Mauricio Ventura, Minister of Tourism.

Meanwhile, Henri Hourcade, Executive Director of Air France-KLM for Latin America, the Caribbean and Indian Ocean, explained: "This 24% increase in capacity by the Air France-KLM group for next winter season is the most effective response to customer demand and demonstrates our wish to expand out operations in Costa Rica and the Central American region."

The alliance between Air France, KLM and Copa Airlines serving Costa Rica

Complementing their direct flights to San José, the company's customers can fly to Europe via Panama, taking advantage of the two daily flights that Copa Airlines offers between San José and Panama City, and from there, connect with the daily flights Air France offers to Paris and KLM to Amsterdam. Customers can do this using a single ticket for the entire trip and checking baggage on to the final destination. Members of Flying Blue, Air France and KLM's frequent-flyer program, can collect and redeem miles on all of Copa's flights.

Air France and KLM offer three destinations for the price of one in Costa Rica

One of the major advantages that the Air France-KLM group offers is the combination of prices between both airlines. This benefit gives their customers the unique ability to access both airlines when traveling. That means that a traveler can leave San José to any destination in the world with Air France and return with KLM, or vice versa.

Furthermore, for travelers going beyond Paris or Amsterdam, Air France and KLM are offering the option to enjoy three destinations for the price of a single trip by stopping in either or both of the two cities on the initial or return trip. So, a traveler leaving San José with KLM and traveling via Amsterdam-Shiphol can stay in the Dutch capital for a few days and then continue their trip to their final destination. Then, on their way back, they can travel with Air France via Paris-Charles de Gaulle and take advantage of the trip to visit the French capital. Three destinations for the price of one, in the same trip!
