- The airline will offer two direct flights to our country.
- With this connection between San José and Amsterdam-Schiphol, there will be access to 131 destinations around the world.
Today, Royal Dutch Airlines opened their direct flight to Costa Rica. The airline will fly directly to San José, Costa Rica (Amsterdam-San José-Amsterdam) twice a week (Tuesdays and Fridays) during the European winter (November to March), and will use a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner with a capacity of 294 passengers.
For Ana Helena Chacón Echeverría, Vice President of the Republic, "this new flight will serve to finance the development of our tourism and will be a link for Costa Rica to open the doors to tourists from all over Europe. In doing so, it will directly benefit diverse sectors, such as exports and foreign trade because Holland (the Netherlands) is one of the main countries to which Costa Rica exports goods. And this is very promising news for the national economy."
Mauricio Ventura, Minister of Tourism explained that KLM’s decision to fly to Costa Rica is the result of a strategy that considers the strengthening and permanence of airlines, the attraction of visitors to the country (through new touristic products, the attraction of very profitable markets, as well as promotions and marketing) and the development of touristic infrastructure, through which KLM’s inaugural flight addresses the importance of closing the gap between the Netherlands as well as the countries the airline connects and the countries that the airline currently does not fly to, such as Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Norway, among others.
Boet (But) Kreiken, Executive Vice President KLM’ Customer Experience, said: “In the past years, Costa Rica has become a very attractive tourist destination for many Dutch and European tourists. We are happy to begin operations in Costa Rica and we also certainly welcome the Costa Ricans to travel with KLM to Amsterdam or one of our many European destinations.”
KLM will fly twice a week to Costa Rica, Tuesdays and Fridays. The flight will depart from Amsterdam - Schiphol at 15:25 and will arrive to San José at 20:05 Costa Rica time. The return flight will depart from San José at 22:05 and arrive to Amsterdam - Schiphol at 15:10 the next day.
The Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner is the airplane that will be used to operate this flight. It is the most modern airplane in KLM’s fleet, and it has 30 seats in World Business Class, 219 in Economy and 45 in Economy Comfort. In addition to being the airline’s most recent acquisition, the Dreamliner is designed to offer the most comfort to travelers; and to protect the environment, it consumes 20% less fuel and produces 20% less C02 emissions.
During the European winter season, AIR FRANCE KLM will offer a total of five weekly flights from Costa Rica to Europe, three of them to Paris, and the two new flights to Amsterdam.
